So I’ve been away

Here a couple of the critters I saw.
I will admit to a bit of a thing about storks, blame Jackanory during the sixties. There always seemed to be cartwheels on the roofs/chimneys of  any european tales, ready for the return of the storks. But I don’t remember the stories, clogs, dykes, and wearing national dress probably.

Stork on nest

This burly chap was happily swimming around a rain swollen inner city river, munching on anything green that floated past. He’s my first otter coypu, squee! Oddly enough some friends a, not on holiday, also saw an otter in their inner city river the same week, theirs had a fish – but I had a camera!

As I Walked Out …2

This is the day that is supposed to be hot. Looking out at the view first thing I saw the morning mist and decided to take myself to the Victorian water tower, before the sun really got going. Dug out my teeny radio and fixed it to the shuffle, pocketed the camera and set off with the intention of a half hour each way. As usual I got to my destination, turned round and got side tracked, disorientated and almost lost on the way back home!
Here are twelve wee pics of there and back, including some big vistas, the water tower, dry ski slope and minature railway. The big thing you are missing out on is the loud and continuous bird song. Excellent!

As I Walked Out…

…one early morning. Not so early and with my coffee and biscuit in one hand and wee camera in the other, and I even had to nip home for a new card and batteries. So please enjoy my hour and a half wander round Castle Hill.

  1. whins (gorse)…mmm that coconut scent
  2. broom with their little bean pod shapes
  3. may blossom (hawthorn) cast yer cloots if you wish!
  4. lilacs, unlucky to have in the house?
  5. field of baby ferns emerging from their dead
  6. english bluebells drooping grcefully behind a wall
  7. fern skeleton and new hawthorn blossom, old meets new
  8. a huge and slightly annoyed bumble bee
  9. buttercups from my front door – yes it’s meant to be a patch of “weeds”!
  10. wild turnip, …really?
  11. baby oak leaves unfurling and looking a soft and shiny

Having been given a pocket microscope as a birthday gift and after peering down it for a while I decided to experiment with my camera. The ‘scope is a light wee thing so getting the heavier Fuji FinePix balanced on top then leaning over was a right fiddle. These are the best (!) of my first attempts but I am not put off as I do like the effect, even though the eye sees better detail.

holiday photys

OK, I know I’ve been quiet for a few weeks. Nothing much happening I suppose but I was away for a few days. You may be able to work out where from the pics below? The bumble bee is probably shown a wee bit smaller than life size, he was impressive.
But now it’s back to the usual daily slippers and dressing gown, getting up at 3 in the afternoon, eating crisps and watching Murder She Wrote everyday… 😉

Books

the wee folk

Ever since watching a TV advertisement for headache tablets that featured a woman juggling her tiny family and collegues in her hand then dropping them into a flower bed, I have worried that there were tiny people living in the undergrowth. (I worried because she does not pick them up again.)
Well, today I had it confirmed. The usual Amazon email arrived and glancing at the first row of pics there they were, captured in a wee book. Yes, the little people are among us, just look where you put your size fives!

MOO minicards, Personal, Photys

photos = MOO minicards

Finally decided to make Moo minicards using my own photys. The package arrived today and I just had to  lay them all out. Showing 49 cards and missing out the one unsuccessful design I managed to take this, squint, I know. And I could’na resist stickers too. Now I know which are better long or square for the next time.MyMooCards
