Today I entered 6 categories and got prizes in 5! Yay!!
There were some lovely flowers, vegetables, crafts, baking and floral art and the childrens section had great collections of seeds, wild flowers, herbs, mini-gardens and vegetable animals!! Chewbacca makes a winning gingerbread character…

Well I’m back, sorry it’s been so long…  the head elf has been filling up a cabinet at the lovely Runcorn Framers in err… Runcorn. Big Beads, teeny cupcakes, mirrors, pens, cupcake and pirate earrings plus more are all nestled between lots of other great craftwork in this super cool framers and gift shop. Hop on down to get something for your own stocking.

Been busy making loads of these big fellahs for a wee while now and only recently finished turning some of them into necklaces. A couple are already being worn about town and one has even been away to the Carribean!
So two more are ready now and listed today on the wee folksy shop

Big Bead Necklace in Imperial Pearly Purples Big Bead Necklace in Oranges 'n' Yellows 'n' Reds

Mixed BIG beads

After a couple of false starts with melting and “exploding” varieties of pen I finally found that the local Pound Shop had the right stuff. So all the back to school displays can be worth having a look through!
And I have to say I am now hooked. Yes, I know every new method or technique that I master (or at the very least enjoy and have a little success with) become my obsession, for a while.
These are my first 9 plain Bic stick pens, finished. Jolly! Now I am off to get some more done in a more organised fashion and hopefully they will be in my online shop(s) soon. 😉

Here is a wee glimpse of what I get up to, in those moments in betweeen snooping for a real job and looking at The Daily Squee! Buttons, magnets, mirrors and some odd uncatogorised thingies. Polymer clay is my friend (apart from days when it all ends up as a grey lump –  although this is still useful…?) Get thee to the wee shop for some of these and others.

out the oven

fresh out the oven as well

My first batch of buttons, polymer clay moulded onto metal covers with a shank at the back. These need a bit of attention to remove little burs and flecks, mibbe polish the white stars/hearts too? (finished size = 22mm diameter)
Having got myself an oven thermometer I discovered today that my little fan oven, kept for craft work, was running about 20°C below the indicated temperature!! This explains the crumbling and snapping of my last set of beads and whatnots (I had blamed some “old” clay). So the moral of the story is, always check – the display could be lying.

Button Set

So here’s the complete collection with the white areas sanded and buffed for a nice shine!
shiny finished buttons

Et voila! my first attempts at… caning, slicing (with the ridged blade), using a tinfoil armature to make a bigger bead, my first “skinner blend” and making a tiny bowl with the cane slices (so fragile dainty that I have no idea what to do with it!).

beadz_babz_baked1I know I shoulda been busy with other things, but in my defence the dishes got washed, making a space to set up the little fan oven. And once you start these it’s hard to stop, bit like sweeties in many respects. Todays crop yielded black and red beads and the two wee hearts, a pair of earrings in fact. Flowers and dolly mixtures have been waiting for a few days. Think I’ll be making more of these now I have the temperature and timing  sorted.
